Cover Art Search [05 Apr 2013|10:25pm]

laura_isabel
Hi earth children fans,

I'm having a bit of trouble finding a certain cover art from the series and was wondering if anyone here could help me. I'm looking for the artist who did the cover art for Shelters of Stone (I don't know the publisher (I only own the German books), but it's that picture of a woman running together with a horse and a wolf in cave painting style). Basically I want to do my own cave painting and I'd like to know if the artist used any reference for this beautiful picture.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!:)

Thoughts on book 6 [02 Jan 2012|11:01pm]

moonplanet
I finally got around to reading the sixth book and I enjoyed it :) I liked it better than book 5!
I am now wondering what Jean Auel will write next...
A 7th book? My cover text says it's the last in the series.
A separate book about Jonayla? About Durc? A story with an unrelated character in the same time period?
I can't really imagine that she'll stop writing, she probably enjoyed doing the research too much to stop researching/writing now!

I posted my review in my journal (Dreamwidth/Livejournal). I read the Dutch book, but the review itself is in English. When I find the English edition, I'll read that too :)

finally read "land of the painted caves" [12 Jun 2011|03:16pm]

cheswick
i checked earlier comments, and i would agree the repetition is painful at times...and then there are other times where the story leaves out huge chunks all together. one minute you're at the summer meeting and jonayla is a baby, then fast forward four years later...really? anyhow, i figured it took about 530 pages to get where a strong storyline finally happened.
back to the repetition issue, the area where i found it to be too much was regarding the caves themselves...a couple of years ago, i went on a tour of one of the many french prehistoric caves, and it reminded me of the passage w/ "the watcher"...nevertheless, i'm hoping there will be another book down the road.

Hello all!

I just read this cool article, that Jean M. Auel may not be done with the Earth's Children series after all...! =)
Also, in roughly 120 days "Land of the painted caves" will be released! Are you all as excited as I am for the book?! Will you buy it on release day and lock yourself away while reading or how will you handle the final book?

Other books? [21 Jan 2010|02:27pm]

aylablade
I am reading the series for the umpteenth time. I am on #5 and should be done by the end of the week (only have 1-2 hours at a time to read). I am liking reading series rather than individual books and since I really like the time period of Auel's books, I was hoping to read some more. But I don't know of any ice age time period books or how to search for them. Anyone like any other series to help them get through until #6 is ready?

Ages ago I posted about how Kahlen Rondot from ANTM 4 made me think of Ayla and that's how I've pictured her ever since. That series is being rerun (for the nth time) in the UK so I was reminded of her again and I decided to look her up to see what she'd been up to. Apparently she's stopped modeling but I discovered another more famous model who looks very much like her, Carmen Kass - whom I'd seen in a commercial and thought was Kahlen. Anyhow, I looked up more pictures of Carmen Kass and found some Ayla-ish ones. Being models they're obviously not muscular enough to "be" Ayla but this is more or less how I picture her.

Kahlen:

Page 5 I really like the top image actually. It has a kind of a post-death curse feel to it...

Recreating the Danube journey [28 Jul 2009|10:17am]

aylaelphaba
Hi!  This is just something I've been curious about for a while, and I don't know if I'll actually manage to do something like this... I've heard that EC fans have held actual Summer Meetings, but I was wondering if anyone has considered re-creating Ayla and Jondalar's journey along the Danube, hiking from the Black Sea along the path hilighted in Jean Auel's map, and camping along the way?  Honestly, this is just a vague idea I once had, and I'm not at all sure how the logistics would work yet, but I was curious if any EC fan groups had considered trying it out?

Earth's Children Role Play [07 Jul 2009|07:35pm]

acherrysunset
Hey there, I just joined the community, but I started reading the Earth's Children series over a year ago. I've taken a few breaks in between the books, but I'm almost finished the Plains of Passage. I find it so easy to get lost in these books, but I'm sure you all need no convincing. =) Anywho, I was just curious if there are any Earth's Children rp's on livejournal. I did a google search and found a Clan rp, but its not really what I'm looking for. If there aren't any on here, would any of you be interested in starting one up? I'm sure we could make it super fun! Let me know what you think!

Anyone here read the Mammoth Stone trilogy by Margaret Allan? I spotted the first book in a secondhand shop but didn't buy it because after reading the back cover I thought it sounded like an EC ripoff. Now I wish I had, it was only 50p.

Hey everyone!

A friend pointed me to this website: http://ugo.com/channels/comics/heromachine2/heroMachine2.asp and I was playing around with it when I realized that I could make Ayla and Jondalar! So I did. ;)

(click for hi-res)

I'm not really pleased with the color of Ayla's hair but I think the rest turned out okay. I feel like I wasn't accurate enough with their clothing, but then again, the website doesn't give you much of a choice. XD

Maybe I'll make some more characters soon. :)

OMG :D Some news!
This was sent out in a newsletter from EC fans...

Here's a rare update for you, directly from Jean:

I am grateful to the readers who are interested in how my Earth's Children Series is progressing. I can only say I am working on Book 6 and it is coming along well. At this moment, I am working my way through some important research, which is taking some time, but once I finish this part, the rest should flow smoothly.

I anticipate that it should not be too much longer until the book is written. After that, my publisher has the job of turning the manuscript into the book, which also takes time.

Yay! Some news at last :-) Granted, nothing to get TOO terribly excited about - but I know more now than I did yesterday!

Ayla Alarms! [24 Jul 2008|04:37pm]

neoreulwonhae
pink_aster made a post a while ago talking about Kristy Lee Cook setting off her AYLA ALARMS! Well, here's another one that sets of my Ayla alarms...

The blonde one without the bangs, that says "My heart is damaged, damaged, damaged" over and over at the end. I'm not sure what it is about her but she totally sets off my Ayla alarms. I mean, besides the blonde hair and blue eyes (which are probably closer to Jondalar's color than Ayla's, actually) there's not too many obvious traits that scream, "AYLA!" I guess it's just the image I've formed in my head of what Ayla looks like. The first time I saw this video and saw her singing at 1:23 I just immediately thought, "Wow, that's Ayla!"

When I see her I think of the chapter in The Mammoth Hunters after Ayla's adoption to become a Mamutoi and when she got really drunk on Talut's bouza and slept with Ranec. The part in there where it was describing how Ayla looked to Ranec. It's not a logical connection; I just saw that chick singing in the video and remembered that exact part of the book.

So here's a fun question that might make this community a little more active. Who are some people that set off your Ayla alarms? Or maybe you've seen a man who sets off your Jondalar alarms? Or any of the other characters in the books. I've been reading these books almost non-stop for the past couple weeks and whenever I turn on the TV or something I always see a few people that remind me of characters in the books. Very vaguely, though. I won't notice it right away but I have the feeling that I know that person or that I've "seen" them before.

XD

artwork? [18 Jul 2008|10:22pm]

neoreulwonhae
Hello again! :D

The last time I posted I had just finished reading Clan. Since then I have read all of Valley and am in the middle of Mammoth. I'm really addicted!

I was wondering if there was a website where I could find the artwork that appears on the covers of the books, specifically the Bantam resissues, the ones I have. I tried Googling Hiroko, the artist, but I didn't find anything. I've seen some of the artwork from the covers, and additional artwork that doesn't appear on the covers, used in people's icons. I really like it and want to use it to make graphics.

I'd appreciate any help! Thanks. :)
